September is autumn in the North of Vietnam, is the beginning of the rainy season in the Central Coast, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.
In September the far-northern mountains often have torrential rains which often cause flash floods. There may also be typhoons or tropical depressions brushing through Vietnam’s sea or inland in the North and north of the Central Region of the country. Typhoons often cause floods in the affected regions.

1/North Vietnam
- The Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Ba Be National Park…) had little sun, clouds, torrential rains for the first three weeks, lovely autumnal weather with bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures during the last week. Yen Minh Town in Ha Giang suffered from a flash flood in the mid of the second week of September 2019. The temperatures were between 22-34oC in the first three weeks, 17--32oC for in the last week.
The Dong Van Karst Plateau had sun, clouds, torrential rains in the first two weeks; sun, clouds and some rains in the third week; and lovely sunshine in the last week. The temperatures were 17-26oC in the first three weeks, 11-25oC in the last week.
- The eastern Northwest of Vietnam (Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai) had sun, clouds and rains for the first three weeks; sun for the last week; 22-34oC for the first three weeks; 18-32oC in the last week of September 2019.
Sapa had had sun, clouds, rains for the first three weeks; sun for the last week; 15-27oC for the first three weeks; 10-22oC in the last week.
Mu Cang Chai had sun and clouds mostly, some rains. The temperatures were mostly 17-26oC in the first three weeks, 14-24oC in the last week.
Mai Chau had sun, clouds, rains, 18-33oC.
- The extreme North West of Vietnam (Son La, Lai Chau and Dien Bien) had sun, clouds, rains, 18-34oC.
The Moc Chau Plateau enjoyed sun, clouds and rains; 18-26oC for the first three weeks; 13-21oC for the last week.
- The low lands in northern Vietnam (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) had sun, clouds and rains for the first three weeks and lovely bright sunshine for the last week. The temperatures were 26-32oC in Halong Bay and in Hai Phong, 25-34oC in the Red River Delta in the first three weeks; 20-31oC in Halong Bay and Hai Phong, 21-33oC in Hanoi and the Red River Delta for the last week.
2/The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh)
The North of the Central Coast had torrential rains in the first week as influence of a tropical depression which made landfall in Quang Tri and Hue. Nghe An and Ha Tinh were flooded in the first week. The region had sun, clouds and isolated t-storms or showers for the last three weeks. The temperatures were 25-32oC.
3/ The Central Coast of Vietnam (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)
All of the region suffered from the tropical depression which made landfall in Quang Tri and Hue in the first week which caused torrential rains all over. There was a flood in Quang Binh and Quang Tri in the first week.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue had mostly rains and torrential rains in the first week; sun, clouds and isolated rains for the last three weeks. The temperatures were 25-33oC in the first half of the month and 24-31oC in the later half of the month.
- Da Nang, Hoi An had torrential rains in the first week; sun, clouds and rains in the last three weeks; 24-33oC.
- The provinces to the south of the Central Coast (Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen) had rains in the first week; sun, clouds and scattered rains in the last three weeks; 24-31oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: had rains mostly in the first week; sun, clouds and some showers in the last three weeks; 25-32oC.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong)
The Central Highlands had little sun, mostly clouds and rains. The temperatures were 20-29oC. Da Lat had clouds and rains for the first three weeks; mostly sun in the last week; 16-24oC.
5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)
The South of Vietnam had mostly cloudy skies and rainy days in September 2019. The Southwesterly Monsoon was strong and the sea was rough around the Con Dao Islands and the Phu Quoc Island.
- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had little sun, mostly clouds, rains, 26-31oC in Vung Tau, 25-32oC in Ho Chi minh City and the Mekong Delta.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: little sun, clouds, rains for the first three weeks; sun, clouds and isolated t-storms for the last week; 25-32oC.
- Con Dao Islands had sun, clouds, strong winds, rough sea, scattered rains, 27-29oC.
- Phu Quoc Island had clouds and rains, some torrential rains, strong winds, rough sea for the first three weeks; sun, clouds, isolated t-storms in the last week; 26-30oC.
