Khanh Hoa is a coastal province, located in the south of the Central Region of Vietnam. Khanh Hoa Province is bordered by Phu Yen Province to the north; by Ninh Thuan Province to the south; by Dak Lak and Lam Dong Provinces to the west and by the East Vietnam Sea to the east. The provincial capital of Khanh Hoa is Nha Trang City.

Khanh Hoa Province has mostly mountainous and hilly terrain which account for 90% of the land area. There are narrow dissected strips of flat plains along the coast which is less than 10% of the land area.
There are different bays and islands in the province including Van Phong Bay, Nha Trang Bay, Cam Ranh Bay, Monkey Island, Bamboo Island,... with turquoise sea waters and white sandy beaches. Many of these bays and islands are ecotourism sites with luxury beach resorts. There are many colorful coral reefs in the sea of Khanh Hoa which are the best in Vietnam for snorkeling and scuba-diving.
The sea of Nha Trang
Apart from the inland area, Khanh Hoa also possesses 200 islands and archipelagos. The province has 385km of rugged coastline with sandy beaches, lagoons and bays which are all popular travel destinations.
There are 40 rivers in Khanh Hoa mostly starting from the west and discharging the water into the East Vietnam Sea. There are several estuaries along the coastline at Khanh Hoa. The biggest rivers are
- The Cai River (Cai River Nha Trang, 79km) starts its course from Gia Le Mountain (1,812m) flowing through Khanh Vinh, Dien Khanh and Nha Trang.
- The Dinh River (or the Cai River at Ninh Hoa) starts its course from Chu H’Mu Mountain (2,051m) of Vong Phu Rang.
- The To Hap River starts in Khanh Son flowing northwestward into Ninh Thuan Province. This is a strange river as normally rivers flow the other way around.
Climate, Best Time to Visit Khanh Hoa
The climate of Khanh Hoa is tropical monsoon with influence of oceanic climate. There are the dry season from January to August and the rainy season from September to December. The average rainfall is 1,200-1,800mm per annum. The temperatures in Khanh Hoa range from 22-32oC.
While it is best time to travel to Khanh Hoa during the months of January-August, it is likely that accommodations are booked out most of the time and that it's overcrowded in some places. During the rainy season, it is likely that you will not be able to visit the tourist sites due to torrential rain.

How to get to Khanh Hoa
By air
The capital city of Khanh Hoa Province is Nha Trang City, 1 hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City and 1 hour 40 minutes from Hanoi. Nha Trang possesses the best beaches and the most stunning coral reefs in Vietnam and the city itself has long been a popular tourist attraction. Nha Trang Cam Ranh Airport is 38km south of Nha Trang.
By rail
There are several daily trains between Hanoi and Saigon which stop at Nha Trang and Ninh Hoa railway Stations which ensures convenient travel to all major destinations in Khanh Hoa.
By road
Nha Trang is 140km east of Da Lat via a sublime mountain road; 200km south east of Buon Ma Thuot; 450km north of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) via Route 1. All roads are in good conditions nowadays.
