Hung Yen Travel Guide, Tourist Attractions, What to see in Hung Yen

1/ Pho Hien Ancient Town

Pho Hien Ancient Town, located at the confluence of the Red River and the Luoc River, started taking shape before the 15th century and was among the busiest trading ports in northern Vietnam in the 17-18th century. River transport was convenient; and Pho Hien was where merchant boats from overseas stopped to obtain permits for continuing the journey onto the capital – Thang Long (Hanoi now).

Merchants at Pho Hien included Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Filipinos, English, Dutch, Portuguese, French... Pho Hien prosperity declined due to unstable politics (feuds and wars between families, change of policies towards foreign trade..), river-silting up and the relocation of the capital of Vietnam from Hanoi to Hue in 1802, which resulted in decline in trade at Pho Hien and migration of merchants to other cities. Nowadays, there are several old architectures left of the golden times of Pho Hien. Pho Hien is 55km from Hanoi.

2/ Nom Village

Nom Village, a village formed around the 15th century and a lot of the architectures of 200-300 years old are still well preserved. The village has an old and relaxing air which brings peace of mind to the visitors. The Nom village is 30km east of Hanoi.
