Ha Nam is located to the south-west of the Red River Delta and adjacent to the mountainous region to the west of Vietnam. The province is bordered to the north by Hanoi, to the east by Hung Yen and Thai Binh, to the south by Nam Dinh, to the west by Hoa Binh and Ninh Binh.
Geography
Ha Nam Province is the buffer region between the western mountains and the Red River Delta. The province has 2 types of terrain: flat river basins along the rivers and to the east of the province; mountainous area to the west of the province (10% of the surface). There are quite a few limestone mountains in the area close to Hoa Binh and Ninh Binh. The general direction of the topography is higher in the west and lower to the east of the province.
The big rivers in Ha Nam are
- The Red River flowing southwards forms the borderline between Ha Nam - Hung Yen & Ha Nam – Thai Binh to the east.
- The Day River and the Nhue River flow southwards in the middle of the province.
- The Chau Giang River
There are several canals and small rivers dissecting the land of Ha Nam which is good for agriculture in the province.
Weather and Climate
Ha Nam has a monsoon climate with 4 seasons per year and with temperatures from 16-38oC. The average annual rainfall is 1,900mm and average humidity 85%. In the summer there are the Southerly, South-Westerly and South-Easterly Winds. In the winter there are Easterly, Northerly and North-Easterly Winds.
Tourist Attractions, What to See in Ha Nam
The idyllic natural landscape of Ha Nam is becoming something of the past. The poor province relies on quick money by granting permits to bring down the limestone mountains in the province to get material for producing cement. There are some cement factories in Ha Nam still and the mountains are disappearing.
While most tourists do not often visit Ha Nam, there are untouched areas in the province for those who love straying from the well-trodden path. Currently Ha Nam is turning Tam Chuc Lake into a tourist spot for both ecotourism and religious tourism.
1/ Tam Chuc Pagoda
This pagoda is a private business. It was built recently by a private company. The state allows this company to use some 5,000 hectares of agricultural land for the complex. The pagoda stirs some controversy among the public and scholars.
Travel, Tours and Things to do in Ha Nam
Tourism is underdeveloped in Ha Nam. Paradissa offers battlefield tours to visit former battle grounds on Route 21 which took place during the Hoa Binh Battle. There may be some changes in local government policy in preserving the karstic landscape to the west of the province, then we could arrange ecotours to this area.
Ha Nam is building many industrial zones which attract large investments from Vietnamese companies and overseas investors. Paradissa also provides business travel services like hotel room booking and local transfers…
Because there are not many demands for tourist services in Ha Nam, there are not many local tour companies and travel agencies in the province. There are some transport agents and taxi companies servicing within the province and to nearby cities.
Where to Stay, Hotels in Ha Nam
There are several hotels in Phu Ly City, most of which are decently clean. There is only 1 luxury hotel in Ha Nam as of writing. Paradissa could arrange accommodations as well as other travel services in Ha Nam upon request.
How to travel to Ha Nam & Getting there and away
Ha Nam is 60km south of Hanoi via Route 1A which is in excellent conditions as of writing.
