March is spring in the North of Vietnam, the dry season in the Central Coast, the dry season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.

In March, the sun continues its trip northwards, the air regions which receives more sunshine has lower pressure and the air regions with less sunshine have higher air pressure. During this time, Vietnam is under the influence of two air regions: one high pressure air masses (cool air) to the northeast and one low-pressure air trough/region (hot air) to the northwest. These two air regions alternately influence Vietnam to make up either cool and dry air, or fog and/or damp air in the North; pleasant temperatures or hot temperatures in the Central Coast and the Central Highlands; often hot temperatures in the South of Vietnam.

During this time it may still still cold in the far-northern mountain of Vietnam and often pleasant in the lowlands of the North; there may be some light drizzles and the air is often damp. The reason is that the cold Northeasterly Monsoon is weak and there is the Southeasterly Wind from time to time. The latter is humid while the former is cool and dry. The two winds may have influence in the North at the same time which causes light rain, thick fog, and often annoyingly damp air.

There may still be some rain in the Central Coast each time a new spell of the cool Northeasterly Wind sets in, but it is mostly sunny weather with often extremely pleasant temperatures. But it is also possible that the hot air trough in the Northwest (or West) of Vietnam may be strong which makes the temperatures in the Central Coast very hot sometimes. The high temperatures may be found in the provinces: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Hue.

The weather in the Central Highlands is quite similar to the Central Coast in March. It is often dry weather with very pleasant temperatures. But sometimes it may get just hot 36-37oC at mid day. There is a difference to the Central Coast that thanks to high altitudes that the Central Highlands do not have high temperatures all day when under the influence of a hot air trough; it is high temperatures at mid day and it turns pleasant at the other times of the day mostly. It rains little or there is no rain in the Central Highlands in March and the whole region often has a serious drought.

The South of Vietnam tends to have more influence from the hot air regions in March. There may be a few days of pleasant temperatures but mostly it is high temperatures and strong sun. There may be unseasonal rain, but mostly it is dry. Given the serious lack of water by the Mekong River, the South of Vietnam constantly suffers from droughts and salt intrusion in March.
