October is autumn in the North of Vietnam, is the rainy season in the Central Coast, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.
In October the far-northern mountains may have occasional torrential rains each time a new spell of the cool Northeasterly Monsoon comes which are often alternated by periods with the most beautiful weather: bright sunshine, pleasant or chilly temperatures. There may also be typhoons or tropical depressions brushing through Vietnam’s sea or inland in the Central Coast and/or the Central Highlands. Typhoons may cause floods in the affected regions.

1/North Vietnam
The North of Vietnam experienced normal autumnal weather in October 2019: some torrential rains but mostly exceptionally beautiful weather with bright sunshine, dry air and pleasant temperatures. There is no doubt that October was among the best months to visit Vietnam in 2019.
- The Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Ba Be National Park…) had sun, clouds, some torrential rains and days with fabulous weather. The region had temperatures between 21-31oC for the first half of the month, 11-29oC for the second half of the month.
Dong Van Karst Plateau Dong Van Plateau had sun, clouds, rains, beautiful weather for some days, 16-24oc and 8-20oC in the first half and second half of the month.
- The eastern Northwest of Vietnam (Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai) had sun, clouds and rains in the first half of the month and exceptionally wonderful weather in the second half of the month. There is no doubt October was among the best time to make trips in the region. The temperatures were 20-31oC for the first three weeks and 14-30oC in the last week.
Sapa had sun, clouds, rains, 14-22oC for the first three weeks and 9-22oC for the last week.
Mu Cang Chai had sun, clouds and thunderstorms and rains. The temperatures were mostly 17-25oC for the first three weeks and 11-25oC for the last week.
Mai Chau had sun, clouds, rains, 20-32oC in the first three weeks, 16-28oC for the last week.
- The extreme North West of Vietnam (Son La, Lai Chau and Dien Bien) had sun, clouds, rains 17-33oC for the first three weeks, 13-30oC for the last week.
The Moc Chau Plateau Moc Chau Plateau had sun mostly, clouds, some isolated rains, 15-24oC for the first three weeks and 11-21oC for the last week.
- The low lands in northern Vietnam (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) had mostly sun, clouds, scattered rains, 22-31oC for the first three weeks and 17-28oC for the last week in Halong Bay and Hai Phong; 22-32oC for the first three weeks and 16-29oC for the last week in Hanoi and the Red River Delta.
2/The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh)
The region had sun, clouds, rains, some torrential rains. The first spell of the cool Northeasterly Monsoon in the second week also had its effects in the region causing the temperatures to drop and torrential rains a a few days. The temperatures were 24-32oC during the first half of the month, 19-30oC in the second half.
3/ The Central Coast of Vietnam (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)
There was Typhoon No. 5 which hit the South Central Coast of Vietnam in the last week which caused torrential rains in all the Central Coast.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue had sun, clouds, rains, 22-33oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An and the provinces to the south of the Hai Van Pass (Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen) had sun, clouds, rains, 22-31oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun, clouds, rains. The temperatures were mostly 22-33oC.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong)
The Central Highlands had mostly sun, clouds and isolated t-storms or rains. Bao Loc was flooded after successive rains in the second week and Typhoon No. 5 in Vietnam in 2019 hit the South Central Coast which caused torrential rains in the later half of the last week. The temperatures were 18-30oC mostly.
Da Lat had had sun, clouds and isolated t-storms or rains, 13-25oC.
5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)
The South of Vietnam had an October in 2019 with more rainy and cloudy days given that it is about to be the end of the rainy season. There was a sudden flood at Binh Phuoc in the first week.
- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had little sun, mostly clouds, rains and some torrential rains, pleasant temperatures, 25-33oC mostly, 26-31oC in Vung Tau.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: sun, clouds, rains in the first week and isolated rains or t-storms for the last three weeks, 24-33oC.
- Con Dao Islands had had sun, clouds, t-storms, strong winds in the third week, 28-29oC.
- Phu Quoc Island had had sun, clouds, isolated showers or t-storms, 25-31oC.
