Vietnam Weather in November 2024
Country: Vietnam

November is autumn and winter in Northern Vietnam, the high rainy season in the Central Coast, the end or about the end of the rainy season in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.

In Northern Vietnam the temperatures are more likely chilly in most of the region and cold in the mountainous regions. There are often new spells of the cold Northeasterly Wind hitting the North which causes rain in the first couple of days of each spell and drop in temperatures.

There may be typhoons or tropical depressions are more likely to make landfall in the Central Coast of Vietnam in November. During the time under impact of a typhoon, boat trips are canceled for a few days on Halong Bay and the Lan Ha Bay, between Co To and Quan Lan Islands (Quang Ninh Province) and the shore. In many cases, traffic between the inland and the offshore islands in the Central Region and southern Vietnam are also disrupted in case of a typhoon in northern Vietnam or in the Central Coast of Vietnam.

November can be the end of the rainy season or about the rain of the rainy season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam. In case of a typhoon making landfall in the Central Coast of Vietnam, it is more likely to rain heavily in part of the Central Highlands. The temperatures in southern Vietnam are mostly pleasant; cool or chilly or cold in the Central Highlands.

It is worth noting that Vietnam’s climate is strongly influenced by global climate change. The skinny and elongated geography of Vietnam with over 3,000km of coastline makes it more vulnerable to changes in the ocean, too. During the year under El Nino impact, the level of temperatures are visibly higher and much smaller rainfalls all over the country; and it is vice versa during the year with La Nina impact which causes more typhoons, more rain and lower temperatures.

Monsoons in Vietnam in November

In November there are three main monsoons affecting Vietnam:

- The Northeasterly Wind which comes from Tibet or Siberia and which makes real winter in northern Vietnam and heavy and long-lasting rainy season in the Central Coast of Vietnam. The Northeasterly Wind may be strong and in which case the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are to have dry weather with pleasant temperatures.

- The Southwesterly Wind, which comes from the Equator which causes daily short-lived and heavy rain and pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam.

- The sea and the offshore islands are to come mostly under impact of the active Northeasterly Wind: rough sea mostly, especially during the times of typhoon or tropical depression.
