In February there is one main monsoon affecting Vietnam: Northeasterly Monsoon which originates from Siberia which causes cool or cold temperatures in the North, cloudy weather in the Central Coast with pleasant temperatures, dry and pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands. The wind is often weak and hence warm temperatures in Southern Vietnam. 

There may be some days that the lowland of Northern Vietnam is to come under the impact of the Southeasterly Monsoon or Easterly Monsoon which often causes high moisture air in the region.

- The sea in all over Vietnam and the offshore islands are to come under impact by the Northeasterly Wind in February : windy, pleasant temperatures, rough sea.

General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in February

The North may have drizzle or moist air sometimes, fog often and mostly pleasant temperatures, so does part of the North of the Central Coast.

The Mid of the Central Coast still has light rain from time to time with pleasant temperatures mostly. The South of the Central Coast should enjoy sunny days, alternated by cloudy days with pleasant or warm temperatures.

The South of Vietnam should have sunny days with warm temperatures. The Central Highlands should have sunny days with pleasant temperatures mostly.

- February is a good time to travel to the far-northern mountains of Vietnam when it is mostly dry and the temperatures are more likely pleasant mostly, cold in the early morning and evening. Those who embark on trekking or hiking tours in the high mountains are to marvel at beautiful clouds which are more readily available throughout the month. 

The Red River Delta is also a good place to travel to in February. Ninh Binh is among the top choices for countryside landscape all the month. Those who embark on luxury cruises on Halong Bay may have  fog sometimes.

- The Mid of the Central Coast of Vietnam may have light rain sometimes in February, but mostly dry weather. The temperatures are pleasant mostly.

- February is a great time for bird tours in Vietnam as migratory bird species are present in the country on their winter migration, and bird parks and national parks in Vietnam teem with wildlife. The best sites for birding in Vietnam in February include : Cuc Phuong National Park, Xuan Thuy National Park, Cat Tien National Park, Da Lat, Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, Deo Nui San (Di Linh Plateau, Lam Dong Province).

- February is not a good time to go for beach holidays or for island vacations in Northern Vietnam or in the Mid of the Central Coast of Vietnam. Expect strong winds the on beaches in Northern Vietnam ; cloudy weather on the beaches in the Mid of the Central Coast of Vietnam.

The best beaches to visit in Vietnam in February are those in the South of the Central Coast and those in the South of Vietnam including Cam Ranh Beach (Khanh Hoa Province), Ninh Chu Beach (Phan Rang-Thap Cham City, Ninh Thuan Province), Mui Ne Beach (Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province), Ho Tram Beach (Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province), Long Hai Beach (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Vung Tau (Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province).

For those who plan a trip to the Central Highlands and/or Southern Vietnam, you are to have a wonderful holiday ahead with mostly sunny days and pleasant temperatures mostly. February is among the best times to travel to these two regions.

Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have either sunny or cloudy days with strong winds and rough sea.

At the beginning of February 2024, the Northeasterly Wind was weak and blowing inland from the sea, hence moist air in the lowland of Northern Vietnam, and drizzle in some places in the far northern mountains for the first 7 days. The temperatures were mostly pleasant in the North.

The Central Coast of Vietnam had entered the dry season with only some isolated light rain in some places. Mostly the region had sunny weather with pleasant temperatures.

The Central Highlands of Vietnam had dry weather with pleasant temperatures.

The South of Vietnam had sunny days with warm temperatures at mid day.

At the end of the first week of February 2024 there was a spell of cold Northeasterly Wind hitting Vietnam causing brief cold temperatures in the North.

Regional weather patterns in Vietnam at the end of the first week of February 2024:

- Northeast: some sun, clouds, some rain, 7-18oC;
- Northwest:  sun, clouds, 10-20oC  in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai; sun, 11-30oC in Son La, Dien Bien, 8-20oC in Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands: clouds, isolated rain, 12-23oC.

- North of the Central Coast: sun, clouds, some rain, 12-26oC in Thanh Hoa, 14-28oC in the others;
- Central Coast from Quang Binh to Hue: sun, clouds, isolated rain, 18-28oC ;
- Central Coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai: sun, clouds, some rain, 20-30oC;

In the second week of February 2024, there was a strong spell of the Northeasterly Wind which caused very cold temperatures in Northern Vietnam, rain in the North and Mid of the Central Coast of Vietnam. The North had mostly beautiful weather in the second week with clouds, sun, breezes and cold-to-pleasant temperatures. 

The Central Coast had some rain, but mostly clouds and pleasant temperatures.
The Central Highlands had lovely weather with sun, pleasant temperatures.
The South had bright sun mostly, some days with warm temperatures.

- Northeast: some sun, clouds, 12-26oC;
- Northwest:  sun, clouds, 17-27oC  in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai; sun, 13-24oC in Son La, Lai Chau,  13-30oC in Dien Bien ;
- Lowlands: sun, clouds, 16-26oC.

The weather patterns were stable in Vietnam in the third week of February, 2024 :
- Dry and breezy weather in Northern Vietnam with very pleasant temperatures ;
- Dry and sunny weather in the Central Coast of Vietnam and the Central Highlands of Vietnam ;
- Warm and hot temperatures, dry weather in Southern Vietnam.

Southern Vietnam experienced hot weather much earlier than normal.

In the fourth week of February 2024, there was a spell of the Northeasterly Wind which caused rain in Northern Vietnam for 4 days. The wind did not affect other regions in inland Vietnam. The sea was rough all over the country.

- Northeast: clouds, some rain, 11-17oC;
- Northwest:  sun, clouds, rain,16-20oC  in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai; sun, clouds, 16-29oC in Son La, Dien Bien Phu, 12-22oC in Lai Chau;
- Lowlands: clouds, rain, 18-22oC.

- North of the Central Coast: some clouds, rain, 19-24oC ;
- Central Coast from Quang Binh to Hue: rain in Quang Binh, sun, clouds in the others, 20-27oC ;
- Central Coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai: sun, clouds, 22-28oC;

- Central Coast from Quy Nhon  to Tuy Hoa: sun, clouds, 23-30oC ;
- Central Coast in Khanh Hoa: sun, clouds, 24-30oC ;
- Central Coast Ninh Thuan: sun, 24-31oC ;
- Central Coast Binh Thuan: sun, clouds, 23-31oC ;

- Central Highlands: sun, clouds, 18-34oC ;

- East of Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh): sun, clouds, 25-36oC;

Northern Vietnam received a spell of the Northeasterly Wind at the end of the month which caused dry and cold temperatures in the region. It was cold below 10oC in the mountains and between 12-18oC in the lowland of Northern Vietnam. It does not normally get this cold in Vietnam in late February.
