The foehn wind starts having effects in the Vietnam in February and temperatures are building up in the Northwest (Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau), North of the Central Region (Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh) and the South of Vietnam (including the Mekong Delta). The temperatures in the country are still pleasant at the moment, mostly 13-32oC.
There are sometimes conflicts of different winds in the North of Vietnam in February, mostly the Northeast and the lowlands (Red River Delta and nearby provinces) which may cause very light rains (rain dusts) in the North a couple of days each time these winds meet. You do not normally need raincoats traveling in these light rains.
In 2019, the Vietnamese enjoyed their Tet (Lunar New Year) in beautiful weather all over the country: sunny, breezy and extremely pleasant temperatures. It does not happen this way normally as the Vietnamese in the North are more used to cool temperatures during Tet which helps them keep plenty of food fresh for the whole week. This pattern of weather lasted for the first 3 weeks of February and this was unprecedented!
There was a brief spell of cool wind which came on 11February2019 and lasted only 4 days; this helped the temperatures in the Northeast and lowlands of North Vietnam 1-4oC lower than earlier in the month. The rain was too brief to mention.
For the first 3 weeks of February: the North had lovely chilly weather in the far-northern mountains and pleasant temperatures in the lowlands. The temperature range was 13-32oC. The third week of February 2019, a new spell of cold wind had its effect in the Northeast and lowlands of North Vietnam; no visible effects on the other regions of the country.
