June is summer in Northern Vietnam, the dry and hot season in the Central Coast, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.
In Northern Vietnam the temperatures are more likely pleasant in the Northeast and in the lowland, but more likely to be hot in part of the Northwest of Vietnam: Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien Phu and Lao Cai. The reason is that this part of the Northwest is under impact of the Lao Wind which blows from Laos and which is a foehn wind.
Besides, part of the Northwest of Vietnam and most of the Central Coast of Vietnam are often to come under impact of growing hot-air troughs, which are often present in the atmosphere to the west (over Laos) or northwest of Vietnam (over southwestern China), which are also attributed to dry air and hot temperatures in these places.
Daily rain in June is found in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam. The temperatures in these two regions are mostly pleasant this month.
Monsoons in Vietnam in June
In June there are three main monsoons affecting Vietnam:
- The Southeasterly Wind which causes pleasant temperatures in most of the North and which may cause showers in the affected regions;
- The Westerly Wind from Laos, which is a foehn wind and which affects part of the Northwest of Vietnam (Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai) and part of the Central Coast (from Thanh Hoa to Hue), which causes dry and warm or hot temperatures ;
- The Southwesterly Wind, which comes from the Equator which causes daily short-lived rain and pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam.
Besides, there may be more days that the lowland of Northern Vietnam is to come under the impact of the Easterly Monsoon which often causes pleasant temperatures in the region.
- The sea and the offshore islands in northern Vietnam are to come under impact of the Southeasterly Wind in the North and Southwesterly Wind in the South in June : pleasant temperatures, calm sea mostly.
What to expect from your holidays to Vietnam in June, where to go in Vietnam in June?
Taking the general weather conditions in Vietnam into consideration, for those travelers planning trips to Vietnam or those who are on holidays in Vietnam in June, then there June be some notes as follows:
- June could be or could be not a good time to travel to the far-northern mountains of Vietnam given that it could rain or it could be dry. While the rain in June is mostly short-lived, but bare hills or steep mountain slopes without forest June pose dangers in or right after heavy rain. Flash floods have happened and accidents have been caused by extreme weather in the mountains.
The Red River Delta is a good place to travel to in June. There may be days with hot temperatures. And there may be tropical depressions or typhoons in the North in June. If so, then expect pleasant temperatures but torrential rain as well as flash floods, landslides in the mountains.
- The Central Coast of Vietnam often has sunny weather with hot temperatures in June. The hot temperatures in June could be caused by the foehn wind from Laos or by growing hot air troughs which are often present to the west or northwest of Vietnam, or in southwest of China or in Laos.
The region to the south of the Central Coast from Da Nang to Binh Thuan is more likely to enjoy sunshine with more tolerable temperatures.
- June is not a good time for birding tours in Northern Vietnam as it is the nesting and mating time of many bird species and most migratory bird species have left the region. But it could still be a fine time for birdwatching in: Bach Ma National Park, Cat Tien National Park, Da Lat, Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, Deo Nui San (Di Linh Plateau, Lam Dong Province). It is worth noting that June is also the nesting and mating time in these places, but birds are still to be observed ; wildlife is more quiet than normal often.
- June is a great time for beach holidays or for island vacations in all over Vietnam Vietnam. The sea is calm all over the country in June. It is worth to note that these are on the conditions that there is no typhoon or tropical depression.
The best beaches to visit in Vietnam in June include Sam Son Beach (Thanh Hoa), Cua Lo Beach (Nghe An), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh Province), Da Nang, Hoi An, Cam Ranh Beach (Khanh Hoa Province), Ninh Chu Beach (Phan Rang-Thap Cham City, Ninh Thuan Province), Mui Ne Beach (Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province), Ho Tram Beach (Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province), Long Hai Beach (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Vung Tau (Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province).
For those who plan a trip to the Central Highlands, you are to have a good holiday ahead with cloudy, sunny days and pleasant temperatures. There June be daily rain in the region but it is mostly short-lived rain which each lasts for half an hour or an hour. Be extra careful if you plan to travel between Da Lat and Nha Trang via the Khanh Le Pass which is vulnerable to landslides in rainy times.
Those planning holidays to Southern Vietnam in June, then you are likely to have a good time. The temperatures may be warm at mid day on some days, but mostly it is pleasant weather with daily shortlived rain. Avoid traveling in the traffic in flooded streets which are often found in heavy rain. The beaches in Vung Tau, Long Hai and Mui Ne, Phan Thiet are the best options near Saigon Ho Chi Minh City.
Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have either sunny or cloudy days with lovely temperatures of 26-31oC.

At the beginning of June 2024, northern Vietnam there was an air trough of which the axis was across northern Vietnam and which in combination with the humid Southeasterly Wind caused rain and heavy rain in most of northern Vietnam and North of the Central Coast of Vietnam.
Part of the Central Coast and southern Vietnam had warm temperatures above 35-36oC. Heavy rain was also found in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam.
Generally speaking, in the first 10 days of June 2024, there was more rain in Vietnam than normal in all over the country, the temperatures in the Central Coast were slightly lower than normal and the temperatures in southern Vietnam were slightly higher than usual.

Heavy rain caused temporary floods in places in Hanoi, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong. Ha Giang had several places flooded, road to the quay on the Nho Que River suffered from a flash flood causing halt in traffic and vehicles stranded.
The north continued to have rainy weather with pleasant temperatures till the end of the second week. There was flash floods in Ha Giang City and Meo Vac District. Cities in the lowland of northern Vietnam like Hanoi, Hai Phong, Uong Bi Town, ... experienced temporary floods. The Central Coast had hot temperatures mostly. The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam had normal daily short-lived rain with pleasant temperatures in the former and warm temperatures in the latter.
Part of northern Vietnam including Hoa Binh Province and the lowland had a heat trike in the third week of June 2024 with daily temperature highs reaching 35-37oC. So did the Central Coast of Vietnam. The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam continued to have weather patterns of the rainy season, same as in the second week.
The final 10 days of June 2024 started with the end of a heat strike in part of northern Vietnam. It was mostly rain and pleasant temperatures in the North. The Central Coast, the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam also enjoyed cloudy weather with rain and pleasant temperatures mostly.
