June is summer in the North of Vietnam, the dry and hot season in the Central Coast, the the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam. The temperatures are often among the highest of the year in June in the North and Central Coast of Vietnam while they are mostly pleasant in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.
Due to a thermal hot air trough which always forms to the west of Vietnam in June that there are often heat strikes in the North, the Central Coast of Vietnam during the month. The temperatures in the affected regions June reach 36-40oC.
Short-lived showers are usually found daily in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam. The rain helps the temperatures more pleasant. T-storms with strong winds which may down trees and destroy houses are often expected in these regions in June.
The prevailing winds in Vietnam in June:
- Southwesterly Monsoon which causes daily rain and pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam, and which causes higher temperatures and dry air in the North and Central Coast of Vietnam. In the latter two regions the wind is known as foehn wind as moisture has been taken off the wind when it passes high mountains.
- The Southeasterly Monsoon which causes humidity and pleasant temperatures in the North of Vietnam.

1/ North of Vietnam
The first week of 2020 was with a heat strike in most of northern Vietnam. High temperatures (36-38oC) were found in many sub regions in the North.
- Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): mostly sun, clouds, isolated t-storms and rain, 23-36oC. Dong Van Plateau had sun, clouds, t-storms, 19-26oC.
- Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: sun, clouds, isolated t-storms, 23-38oC. Sapa had sun, clouds, t-storms, 17-25oC. Mu Cang Chai had clouds, t-storms, 20-27oC. Mai Chau had sun, clouds, some isolated t-storms, 24-37oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: sun, clouds, t-storms, 22-33oC. Moc Chau had sun, clouds, isolated t-storms, 21-27oC.
- Lowlands (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh): had mostly sun, clouds, 28-36oC in Halong Bay and Hai Phong, 28-38oC in Hanoi and the Red River Delta.
2/ The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh)
The first week of June was mostly with sun, clouds, 27-38oC.
3/The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)
In the first week of June 2020, the Central Coast of Vietnam had a heat strike mostly: mostly sun, clouds, hot temperatures.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: sun, clouds, 27-36oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: sun, clouds, 26-38oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: sun, clouds, isolated t-storms, 26-38oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds, some isolated t-storms, 25-36oC.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai - Pleiku, Dak Lak - Buon Ma Thuot, Lam Dong)
June is the rainy season in the Central Highlands of Vietnam with daily short-lived rain and pleasant temperatures.
In the first week was mostly with sun, clouds, t-storms, 22-32oC. Da Lat had sun, clouds, t-storms, 16-27oC.
5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)
June is the rainy season in the South of Vietnam with daily short-lived rain and t-storms. The temperatures are mostly pleasant.
In the first week of June 2020, the South of Vietnam had mostly sun and nice temperatures, t-storms and showers.
- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had sun, clouds, t-storms, 26-33oC in Vung Tau, 24-35oC in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: sun, clouds, t-storms, 25-34oC.
- Con Dao Islands had sun, clouds, some t-storms, 29-30oC.
- Phu Quoc Island had sun, clouds, t-storms, 27-32oC.
