Hang Kia is a little valley perched on an altitude of 900-1,200m above sea level. While Hang Kia is part of Mai Chau District of Hoa Binh, it belongs to the Moc Chau Plateau geographically. Hang Kia is 170km southwest of Hanoi via Route 6.

Hoa Binh is a mountainous province in north-western Vietnam. The province is bordered to the north by Phu Tho, to the east by Hanoi, to the southeast by Ha Nam and Ninh Binh, to the south by Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa, to the west by Son La. The provincial capital city is 74km south-west of Hanoi.

The Thung Khe Pass (also known as the White Rock Pass, White Cliff Pass) is in between Mai Chau and Tan Lac Districts of Hoa Binh Province. The Thung Khe Pass offers commanding views of the mountains, valleys and villages below. The top of the pass is often covered in fog in the summer.
