Travel Guide to Luxury Cruises on Halong Bay Vietnam
Day1: Hanoi - Tuan Chau Island - Halong Bay Luxury Junk Cruise/Overnight on board amid the Wilderness of Halong Bay
Once everyone was back on board, the junk made a short cruise to the anchoring site for the night. We had a relaxing time enjoying the tranquility of Halong Bay without any noise: no engine sound, no car horn...
There were few vendors approaching us with drinking water, candy, fruits, souvenirs... I was impressed by a boat with neat arrangement of colors of the goods for sales which told something about the owner. The breezes were refreshing and I thought I could be sitting on the balcony of my cabin for ever...
A colorful vendor boat that I loved!
Then came the time that we had to go to the sundeck for the cooking demonstrations. I was the first passenger to get there. Some tables put together were covered with spotless clean white cloth and the cooking materials were readily laid. We were learning how to make fresh spring-rolls...
Cooking demonstrations on board
After short while other people showed up and quickly settled down in the chairs by the table. The chef appeared in a white shirt and started to show us the dish we were going to make and the cooking materials. After the demonstrations everyone had a chance to make the spring-rolls themselves.
Cooking demonstrations by the chef
Hands-on experience by the passengers
I didn't have a try but was given a finished one by the chef. It tasted good with mint flavor, crispy carrot, fresh salad and cucumber. The vermicelli and fried egg served as the base. The dipping sauce was good with gentle sweet and sour flavors. I would prefer it more spicy though. Out there, the evening had been closing in... All the boats had their lights on and the islands around us appeared more and more blur in the enveloping darkness.
I had a stroll on the sundeck trying to take in as much fresh air as possible. It was foggy a night and there was no way I could see the stars and the moon. The climb in the afternoon helped me a lot in digesting the big lunch and I was more than happy to go to the restaurant for another feast. It was all seafood caught from Halong Bay again but the dishes were cooked differently compared to lunch. One thing the same was that it was all mouth-watering and sensational...
Fried chopped squid and fried fish
After dinner, I got up to the sundeck for some more stroll and went down to the cabin for a hot tea on the balcony. Halong Bay at night was as lovely, peaceful and fresh as ever...
