Hoang Su Phi is among the most untouched areas of Ha Giang Province of Vietnam. The district was separated from the mainstream society until very recently. The capital town of Hoang Su Phi District is Vinh Quang Township, 60km from Tan Quang Town and 100km from Ha Giang provincial capital.
Geography
Hoang Su Phi is bordered to the north by China, to the east by Vi Xuyen District, to the south-east by Bac Quang District, to the south by Quang Binh District and to the west by Xin Man District.
The terrain of Hoang Su Phi is dissected by narrow valleys and streams, and with steep gradients. The average altitude is from 1,500-1,700m above sea level. The two highest mountain peaks are Tay Con Linh (2,423m) to the north-east and Chieu Lau Thi (2,402m) to the west.
The two biggest river systems are Song Chay to the north-west of the district and Song Bac to the south and south-east of the district.

Weather and Climate
The rainy season is from May through October with torrential rains and landslides, especially between July - September. The dry season is from November through April with low temperatures which may be less than 10oC.

People and Population
There are 13 ethnic groups in Hoang Su Phi, of which the Nung accounts for 38.8; the others are Dao 21,8%, Hmong 12,6%, Tay 14,2%, La Chi 6%, Kinh 4,8%, Hoa Han 1,25% Co Lao 1,43%, Thai 0,02%, Phu La 0,2%, Cao Lan 0,06%, Muong 0,07%.

3/ Rice terraces
Apart from idyllic ethnic villages and sublime mountains, Hoang Su Phi is famed for its captivating rice terraces during the rice transplanting season (May-June) and just before the harvest season (late September - early October). The total rice growing area of Hoang Su Phi is 3,757ha of which 764.8ha has been classified as National Heritage.

4/ Mount Tay Con Linh
Mount Tay Con Linh with primeval forest and challenging trekking adventures. The trekking routes do not travel through villages and careful preparations must be made before departure.
5/ Mount Chieu Lau Thi
Mount Chieu Lau Thi offers breathtaking views of the surrounding wild nature. The trek from the mountain base to the top is 9km and the same route back. Unless you want to stay longer, the tour should be for 2 days, 1 night. Accommodation is a wooden hut – 20 minutes hike from the top.

How to get to Hoang Su Phi
Hoang Su Phi is 300km from Hanoi via Route 2. The road is mostly in good conditions with nice fields and mountains along the way. At Tan Quang Township of Ha Giang Province, you'll turn into a small road which keeps going up into the mountains. The landscape is sensational around here.
