Thung Nham Bird Valley is in Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province. Thung Nham is a popular tourist attraction for nature lovers. Thung Nham Bird Valley could offer some good birding experience if you are here at the right time.
The area of Thung Nham is over 300 hectares. Thung Nham Bird Valley is similar to Thung Nang Valley and Tam Coc which is a flooded area with forest, limestone mountains, rivers, moors… Besides, Thung Nham is a busy bird park for most of the year. At the peak period, the site is home to about 50,000 birds of 40 different species: Chinese egret, night heron, Asian Openbill, White-rumped shama, Starling, Common Teal, Little grebe…
What to See, Things to Do
1/ Bird Watching
Thung Nham Bird Valley offers busy bird life in the early morning and late afternoon. The valley is home to the biggest bird community during the bird migration season from October through February. Though it is not a particularly great site for bird watching, Thung Nham offers some nice time observing the nice valley with thousands of gregarious storks.
2/ Walking Tour, Rowing Boat Trip
The walking path at Thung Nham is 3km and you can enjoy the pristine nature on foot or by electric cart or by rowing boat.
3/ Vai Gioi Cave, But Cave, Tien Ca Cave
There are quite a few limestone caves at Thung Nham and the three popular ones are Vai Gioi Cave, But Cave and Tien Ca Cave.
How to get there
Thung Nham Bird Valley is 14km southwest of Ninh Binh City, 5km west of Bich Dong Pagoda and 7km from Tam Coc Jetty. The country road, which connects these tourist attractions, offer idyllic landscape with rice fields, rivers and limestone mountains.
